This fragrance was launched in 2006 and is a special version of the original Caline perfume. The purpose of the perfume designer was clearly to make this fragrance more elegant and more suitable for an evening use than the original. The officially declared notes for this perfume are: mandarin, apple, cherry, jasmine, rose, patchouli, pralines, sandalwood, and musk. The only ingredients in common with the original version are cherry, jasmine, praline and musk.
The opening notes are intense, with ripe fruits, especially cherries, and sweet, almost gourmand notes, like cocoa beans or chocolate mixed with vanilla.
In the middle notes, the sweet cherries and the chocolate notes are tamed by a green fresh apple, mixed with patchouli. The way these fresh notes cut into the sweetness of the opening, is very similar to the one in Juicy Couture perfume for women or in CH by Carolina Herrera.
The final notes are again a mix of ripe fruit and gourmand notes, but the actors are now different: cherry and chocolate have completely disappeared, in favor of peaches and vanilla. A very similar change occurs, at the same stage, in Cartier perfume for women.
This perfume has a very gourmand start, with a night soul that comes out very strongly. Its ideal place is on an elegant night dress, at a wedding or at a party with friends. Yet, the evolution of this fragrance towards the middle and base notes, offers more possibilities, making it also suitable for a daily use in an office environment. From a romantic standpoint, this Caline Night by Gres is fairly attractive, perhaps not extremely sensual, but still feminine enough for a romantic dinner. The age range in the original version was between 20 and 45, but in this “Night” version the age is a little higher and narrower, I would say between 25 and 45.
